Points Table
Points of Match 1 between Manipal Tigers and Konark Suryas Odisha Revised: Legends League Cricket Season 3
After careful consideration and in-depth discussions, the Apex Council has thoroughly reviewed the report of Event Technical Committee regarding the scoring error during the match against Konark Suryas Odisha (KS) on 20th September 2024, at Barkatullah Stadium, Jodhpur. The Apex Council of the Legends League Cricket consists of Ravi Shastri, League Commissioner, Syed Kirmani and also includes Vivek Khushalani & Raman Raheja.
After a complaint raised by Manipal Tigers (MT), the matter was earlier referred to the Event Technical Committee (ETC), which conducted a detailed investigation into the issue. The Chief Cricket Operations Office (CCOO) led by Adrian Griffith, confirmed that an error occurred during the match, leading to a two-run discrepancy in MT's score. While MT raised concerns during the game, the error could not be detected in time and therefore not corrected while the match was still in play, resulting in a recorded score of 102/8 rather than the correct score of 104/8 on conclusion of the match.
The result of the match between Manipal Tigers and Konark Suryas Odisha will remain the same along with the net run rate calculation. The confirmed change is each team will receive one point and this will be reflected on the points table.
“Since it was a genuine and accepted mistake which was brought to the notice of the fourth umpire during play and still nothing was done about it by the scorer, whatever the rules, in this case the points have to be shared. The team cannot be docked points for the mistake of a scorer. Although the result cannot be altered once umpires leave the ground as say the rules, the present case is an exceptional case and the ETC decision should prevail so as not to have a repeat of this in the future. It's a classic case of common sense prevailing.” said Mr. Ravi Shastri, League Commissioner, Legends League Cricket.
“Despite our efforts to mediate a resolution that could satisfy both teams, we have been unable to reach a consensus. Therefore, after deliberation, the Apex Council has decided to uphold the ruling of the Event Technical Committee. The result of the match between Manipal Tigers and Konark Suryas Odisha will remain the same along with the net run rate calculation. The confirmed change is each team will receive one point and this will be reflected on the points table. We trust that this decision, while not ideal for all parties, is in the spirit of fair play and upholds the integrity of the game. We are committed to implementing additional measures, including enhanced technology, to prevent such issues from occurring in the future.” said the Apex Council, Legends League Cricket.
“Having studied the 3 documents very minutely, in all fairness and while respecting the laws of the game, the inadvertent mistake has happened. The points should be shared equally and the game should be carried forward on the legacy of fair play as GENTELMEN play this game, respecting one another.” said Mr. Syed Kirmani, Code of Conduct and Ethics Committee, Legends League Cricket.
The league takes the spirit of game seriously and has accepted the error made during the match. To work with complete faireness of the game, the Apex Committee has decided to give both the teams one point each.
